How did the Oyo Police rescue 19 Ghanaians and address cult violence?

The Oyo State Police Command successfully rescued 19 Ghanaian nationals who had been trafficked into Nigeria under false pretenses of employment. The operation took place on July 2, 2025, after officers received credible intelligence about suspicious activities in a building in the Kajorepo area of Akinyele Local Government Area. Upon executing a search warrant, police found the building locked from the outside and discovered 14 men and 5 women from Ghana inside. The victims were reportedly lured into the country with deceptive job offers and exploited for financial gain. They have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further proceedings, including potential repatriation.

In a related development, the police issued a security alert in anticipation of the July 7 Founders’ Day celebration of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa, also known as Black Axe. Authorities warned of possible violence and retribution among rival gangs during the event. To prevent unrest, police held meetings with local businesses, advising them against hosting cult-related activities. The Command emphasized the importance of community collaboration in mitigating risks and urged residents to educate young people about the dangers of cultism. Police officers are set to be deployed across strategic locations to ensure public safety and order, with the public encouraged to report any suspicious activities.
