During the recent WWDC 2026, Apple unveiled watchOS 27, focusing on enhancing the performance of the Apple Watch through several key improvements. While the update primarily targets under-the-hood enhancements, it introduces a user-friendly dynamic app grid that adapts based on usage patterns and context, with Siri at its core. This feature aims to streamline navigation, allowing users quicker access to desired apps by pressing the Digital Crown.
In addition to this visible change, watchOS 27 offers significant improvements in battery efficiency, Wi-Fi connectivity, water detection accuracy, step tracking precision, and faster media playback and app extension launches. However, these enhancements require newer hardware, as watchOS 27 is compatible only with iPhone 11 or later models, including the iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), and specific Apple Watch models such as the Apple Watch SE 3, Series 9, 10, 11, and Ultra 2 or 3. Consequently, support for older models like the Apple Watch Series 6, 7, 8, and the original Ultra and SE 2 has been discontinued. The new software is set for release in the fall.
