What are the key features of macOS 27 Golden Gate?

macOS 27 Golden Gate, currently in beta, is set for a fall release and introduces a host of new features designed to enhance user experience. The update integrates Siri AI, Liquid Glass enhancements, and a suite of Apple Intelligence functionalities. Siri on the Mac is now embedded within Spotlight, allowing users to search for files or ask questions through a new interface activated by Command + Space. Siri’s capabilities extend to accessing Mac data and answering general inquiries, offering personalized responses beyond what other AI services can provide. Users can engage with Siri through Spotlight or a dedicated app that logs past interactions. Siri is further woven into system tasks such as email composition and grammar checking, adapting to the user’s writing style.

Visual Intelligence makes its debut on the Mac, accessible via the screenshot tool. Users can select portions of their screen for Siri to analyze and provide information. In Safari, text or images can be selected for further insight from Siri, with features like plant and animal identification and nutritional analysis of food images now available.

Apple Intelligence enhances built-in apps, improving Safari tab organization, automating password updates, introducing AI editing tools in Photos, and enabling photorealistic image generation in Image Playground. Shortcuts, Calendar, Mail, and Messages apps benefit from AI-driven enhancements, offering natural language processing and action suggestions.

Liquid Glass sees updates with adjustable system opacity, improved refraction and contrast, streamlined sidebars, and a decluttered menu bar. macOS Golden Gate is compatible with Apple silicon Macs, excluding Intel-based devices. Notably, while Siri AI is unavailable on iPhones and iPads in the EU, it is accessible on macOS within the region.
