At the 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced that its most advanced on-device AI model is currently only compatible with the latest iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. This limitation is due to the AI model’s requirement of 12GB of RAM, which the standard iPhone 17 lacks, having only 8GB. Consequently, iPhone 17 users miss out on enhanced Siri voice expressiveness and improved dictation accuracy. However, all other features of iOS 27’s Siri AI, such as personal context and onscreen awareness, remain accessible on devices including the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 16 series, and the iPhone 17. The upcoming iPhone 18 is anticipated to feature 12GB of RAM, enabling full access to all Siri AI capabilities without a price increase, as Apple aims to boost market share. The iPhone 18 is expected to launch in spring 2027, alongside the iPhone Air 2 and the budget-friendly iPhone 18e.
