WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to send text messages that can only be viewed once, similar to its existing feature for photos, videos, and voice notes. Users will have the option to select “Send as view once” by long-pressing the Send button after typing a message. Once sent, the recipient can open and read the message only once before it disappears, preventing any possibility of copying, forwarding, or sharing. Additionally, WhatsApp will block screenshots and screen recordings to ensure the content cannot be preserved. This feature will be available for both individual and group chats, but not for channels. The development is also underway for Android devices. This innovation will be particularly appreciated by users who currently resort to embedding text in images to achieve a similar effect. Another related feature in beta testing allows messages to disappear based on a countdown that begins once they are read, though it has not yet been widely released.
