Radical Numerics, an AI research lab focused on developing general biological intelligence, has launched with a substantial $50 million in seed funding. The funding round was led by Emergence Capital, with contributions from Obvious Ventures, Triatomic Capital, Factory, and First Spark Ventures, and pre-seed backing from Patrick Collison. Founded by Eric Nguyen, Michael Poli, Stefano Massaroli, and Armin Thomas, the team previously pioneered the field of generative genomics with their AI model Evo, which can read and write DNA at scale. Now, they are introducing Omnii, a groundbreaking genomic language model that excels in identifying causal regulatory variants and detecting AI-generated pathogens. Radical Numerics aims to advance biological design for health and strengthen biodefenses against potential misuse. The company is collaborating with partners on cancer detection and pathogen characterization, aiming to scale its models and expand its research team. The lab’s approach integrates biosecurity from the ground up, setting it apart in the field of AI-driven biological research.
