Is the Foldable iPhone ‘Ultra’ Still on Track for Production Despite Hinge Issues?

Apple’s highly anticipated foldable iPhone “Ultra” is slated to enter mass production by the end of July, maintaining its target for a September launch. Despite earlier concerns about potential delays due to hinge issues, it appears that Apple is moving forward with its original timeline. The foldable device will feature a 7.8-inch OLED panel from Samsung, designed to be thinner and more efficient by integrating the color-filtering layer directly into the display.

The hinge, a critical component, will be supplied by Shin Zu Shing from Taiwan and Amphenol from the U.S., both employing advanced 3D-printing techniques. Initial testing revealed some challenges, such as noise after extensive folding and higher defect rates due to manufacturing tolerances. However, these issues are reportedly being resolved.

The foldable iPhone will also boast a 5.5-inch cover display, Apple’s A20 chip, a C2 modem, a Touch ID power button, and dual rear cameras. Expected to be priced around $2,000, the device could debut as the “iPhone Ultra.”
