Kalipso, a Barcelona-based AI-driven regtech company founded by Virginia Debernardi and former Klarna legal counsel Pierre Ferran, has successfully secured a $3.2 million seed round to fuel its expansion into key international markets such as Italy, the UK, France, Spain, and the Benelux countries. This funding round attracted notable investors including Vento, Varsity, Lanai Partners, Kima Ventures, and Plug and Play Tech Center.
The company, which assists organizations in adopting and implementing regulatory changes, is seeing increased demand from compliance departments of large organizations and banks. Kalipso’s platform supports major regulatory frameworks like Dora, MiCAR, PSD2, AI Act, GDPR, and MiFID II. With ISO 27001 certification, Kalipso ensures data storage on sovereign European cloud infrastructures.
The founders, Debernardi and Ferran, bring a wealth of legal, technological, and operational expertise. Debernardi has experience with European institutions and as a general counsel, while Ferran combines legal roles with software engineering skills. Their goal is to transform compliance processes from manual and fragmented systems into a streamlined, AI-driven infrastructure that translates regulatory changes into actionable steps.
Kalipso’s platform monitors over 100 sources across 40 jurisdictions, processing 3,000 regulatory updates daily. It offers a comprehensive compliance cycle coverage, ensuring users are up to date with regulatory developments affecting their business model. The platform aims to provide a seamless solution for handling regulatory changes, moving beyond traditional methods reliant on spreadsheets and consultancy reports.
