What will One UI 9’s Camera Assistant bring to new foldable phones?

Samsung is preparing an update to Camera Assistant for One UI 9 that will enrich the native Camera app with targeted improvements and new options. The stated goal: give users finer control—especially on foldables—and better management of the camera’s auto-stop behavior.

A mysterious foldable feature
The update adds an option with a vague description, leaving its exact purpose unclear. The name hints at a foldable-related function: it could be a viewfinder display adjustment, a multi-window adaptation, or an optimization for hinges and flexible form factors. We’ll likely learn more when Samsung unveils its next generation of foldable devices.

Option to disable camera auto-stop
One clear addition is the ability to disable the camera’s automatic shutdown. When enabled, the Camera app will no longer close itself after a period of inactivity—useful for long takes, repeated framing, or studio workflows where the app needs to remain active between shots.

Expanded minimum shutter speed choices
Samsung is refining the Minimum Shutter Speed feature introduced in One UI 8.5. Already valuable in Photo mode to limit motion blur and noise, the setting gains a new step: 1/60s. Users will be able to choose from 1/1000, 1/500, 1/120, 1/60 and 1/30 seconds, offering more granular control over sharpness and exposure for different shooting scenarios.

More languages and TILTA compatibility
Camera Assistant will expand its language support to reach a broader audience. Samsung is also improving integration with TILTA wireless lens controllers, making it easier for videographers and production professionals to use these accessories through the Camera app.

What this means for users
These updates strengthen Camera Assistant as a powerful complement to Samsung’s default Camera app. With finer shutter-speed control, configurable auto-stop behavior, and improved accessory compatibility, One UI 9 promises a more flexible photo and video experience—particularly for foldable-phone users and creators who rely on professional accessories.

Pending rollout, the update looks like a step toward deeper customization of Samsung’s Camera experience, boosting technical control and ergonomics for demanding creators and enthusiasts.
