Apple Sports 4.2 rolls out on iPhone with new European and Asian leagues and lineup display
Apple Sports was updated today to add coverage for several national football leagues across Europe and Asia and to introduce lineup displays for most competitions covered by the app. Version 4.2 has begun rolling out on iPhone — one day after the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain.
What leagues are newly covered
The update adds tracking for the following national championships:
– Belgian Pro League (Belgium)
– Superliga (Denmark)
– Eredivisie (Netherlands)
– J1 League (Japan)
– Ekstraklasa (Poland)
– Scottish Premiership (Scotland)
– Swiss Super League (Switzerland)
Lineup display: what changes for users
Apple Sports now shows team lineups and tactical formations for the majority of football matches it covers. This makes it easier for users to view starters and team shape at a glance before kickoff, improving pre-match context and matchday reading on the iPhone.
Availability and version
The app remains iPhone-only; the update is listed as version 4.2 and is currently rolling out. Apple has not announced plans for a release on other platforms.
With added domestic leagues and a clearer tactical/lineup view, this release strengthens Apple Sports’ usefulness for football fans who follow matches from their iPhones.
