Apple finally lets you remove the dictation/voice icon next to the Send button in Messages. In iOS 27 (and iPadOS 27), you can choose to display the audio-record icon, the dictation icon, or nothing at all — preventing accidental taps that interrupt music playback.
Why this change is coming
The close proximity of the Send arrow and the dictation/voice icon led to frequent accidental taps: after sending a message, an unintended press would trigger dictation or a voice recording and sometimes pause the music. This small but recurring annoyance was widely reported by users, prompting Apple to add a setting that gives everyone control over which icon appears.
Where to find the option in iOS 27
To change what appears in the message text field, go to Settings > Apps (near the bottom of the list) > Messages > Show in Text Field, then choose one of three options: Record Audio, Start Dictation, or None. If you’re often bothered by accidental presses, select None to remove the icon entirely.
