A report says Samsung will use an inkjet process on more camera lenses of the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra to reduce lens package thickness and minimize flare.

Smartphone camera assemblies typically stack multiple lenses above the image sensor and use small ribs to keep those lenses aligned. Light can enter through the ribs and cause flare, so manufacturers coat them with black, light‑blocking films. These films are extremely thin — measuring only a few millimeters — but they still occupy space within the lens package.
According to reporting, Samsung attempted to eliminate the space taken by those films on the Galaxy S26 Ultra by printing a black light‑blocking ink directly onto the ribs using an inkjet process, making the treatment thinner than a conventional film. The company did not confirm whether it used that technique across the Galaxy S26 series.
The same report claims Samsung will apply the inkjet process to more cameras on the Galaxy S27 Ultra than it did on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. There is no information about exactly how many cameras on either model used or will use the technique.
