Samsung Foundry expects its manufacturing facilities to reach 100% utilization in the second half of the year as demand for 2nm chips, AI accelerators and HBM base dies continues to surge. The company’s fab utilization has already climbed into the 70–80% range.
A new report says Samsung became the first foundry to commercialize a 2nm process last year just as demand for AI chips began rising. With a leading competitor’s cutting‑edge capacity heavily booked, major firms such as AMD, Google, Qualcomm and Tesla have started shifting orders to the South Korean manufacturer.
Samsung Foundry capacity and node demand
The report indicates Samsung’s advanced foundry lines are expected to operate at full capacity in the second half of the year, driven by rising orders for 2nm manufacturing, AI accelerators and HBM base dies. Utilization is also improving across process nodes: leading‑edge processes at 8nm and below are already at or near maximum levels, while stronger demand is supporting mature nodes used in AI and automotive applications.
Customer movement amid tight leading‑edge supply
Industry customers have increasingly turned to Samsung as they seek available advanced production slots. That shift comes after a period in which many chip designers favored a different foundry for more advanced nodes, higher manufacturing yields and advanced packaging execution.
Samsung Foundry’s stated target of full utilization reflects rising orders across its advanced and mature lines, with the company expecting capacity to be fully used in the second half of the year.
