Images filed in the WIPO Global Design Database show Samsung may be testing a redesigned triple-camera layout for the Galaxy S27 series: three lenses arranged side-by-side inside a single horizontal module with very little camera bump, the illustrations suggest.
The rendering differs from the individual camera rings used on recent Galaxy phones, and the camera array appears to sit almost flush with the rear panel, a change that could give the next Galaxy flagship a cleaner, slimmer look.
Galaxy S27 camera design and magnetic accessories
A flatter camera module could also have a practical benefit for magnetic accessories. Recent Galaxy S phones don’t include built-in Qi2 magnets, so users must rely on compatible cases for proper magnetic alignment. The telephoto camera on current models can sit quite close to some Qi2 accessories; a redesigned layout could potentially provide more clearance.
Other aspects of the design remain familiar in the illustrations, with rounded corners and flat-looking sides, but the compact camera section—keeping all three sensors together rather than giving each its own ring—would make the S27 visually distinct from the current generation.
Samsung has reportedly explored other camera changes for the next flagship lineup, including work on a variable aperture for the Galaxy S27 Ultra that was later said to have been dropped. The WIPO filing does not guarantee this precise layout will appear on a final product: Samsung could still revise the design during development. If adopted, the near-flat camera setup would alter the look of the Galaxy S27 and could ease some magnetic accessory alignment issues.
