Exynos 2700 Could Power Galaxy S27 Ultra, Challenging Snapdragon

New reports say Samsung has ordered motherboards for the Galaxy S27 Ultra using its Exynos 2700 chip, a move that would mark the Exynos line’s return to the Ultra series and position the chip as a potential rival to Qualcomm’s flagship processors.

Samsung appears to be pursuing a parallel development strategy for the Galaxy S27 Ultra: the company is reportedly continuing work on a Snapdragon-based variant while preparing a version running the Exynos 2700. If confirmed, this would be the first Galaxy S Ultra to use an Exynos processor since the Galaxy S22 Ultra, after recent generations favored Snapdragon for Ultra models in many markets.

Regional distribution is expected to follow Samsung’s established pattern rather than a single global rollout. The likelihood that every Galaxy S27 Ultra (or the entire S27 family) would use only the Exynos 2700 is considered very low; US users are expected to receive Snapdragon-powered units, while the Exynos 2700 may be deployed in specific markets. For the Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus, the probability of Exynos versions being used in some regions is considered even higher. The Galaxy S27 Pro remains uncertain, though most sources suggest it will share many specifications with the Ultra and could therefore use the same chip platform.

Exynos 2700 benchmark results and implications

Samsung’s decision is reported to be linked to promising test results for the Exynos 2700. In comparisons against versions of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, the Exynos 2700 reportedly outperformed Qualcomm’s chips in several key tests. In the Geekbench 6.5 multi-core test, the Exynos 2700 is said to be up to 19% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and about 9.5% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. On graphics, the Exynos 2700’s GPU is reported to deliver roughly 5% higher performance than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

The reported performance gap widens in low-power conditions: the Exynos 2700 is said to outperform the Gen 6 Pro by about 22% and the standard Gen 6 by about 24% when operating in low-power environments. If those figures translate to commercial devices, the Exynos 2700 could become one of Samsung’s most notable mobile chips in years.

These developments would leave Qualcomm in Samsung’s plans as a continued supplier while reintroducing a Samsung-developed chip to the high-end Ultra line, with market-specific distribution likely determining which users receive which chipset.
