Leaked renders of the Samsung Galaxy S27 series suggest Samsung is preparing a major redesign for its flagship S line, with the most visible change being a new, wider camera plateau on the Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra.
Design changes for the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra
The leaks indicate Samsung would move away from its long-established vertical camera arrangement on the Pro and Ultra models to a broader camera plateau that resembles the look Apple introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro in 2025. That 2025 Apple change shifted the iPhone from a square camera island to a wider plateau stretching across the upper rear panel. Other brands have since adopted similar layouts, including HONOR with the HONOR 600 Pro and TECNO with the SPARK 50. According to the leaked CAD renders, the redesign appears to be limited to the Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra, while the standard Galaxy S27 is expected to retain a more familiar camera design.
The visual similarity has already sparked debate online, with some analysts and users accusing Samsung of copying Apple. Others note that a similar external camera plateau does not necessarily imply identical camera systems or internal layouts. The resemblance may nonetheless be hard to ignore given Samsung’s recognisable identity built around vertically arranged Galaxy S cameras for several generations, even as the series is widely considered overdue for a visual refresh.
Battery and charging
Supply chain reports say Samsung is testing silicon-carbon batteries for the Galaxy S27 series, following the company’s adoption of that technology in its 2026 Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 lineup. The switch to silicon-carbon cells could allow Samsung to move beyond the sub-5,000mAh battery capacity that has defined its flagship Galaxy S phones for years, though current leaks do not confirm a large capacity increase across the entire S27 lineup. Rumours also link the new battery technology to faster charging, which could address a long-standing complaint about Samsung flagships.
Performance and chipset expectations
Performance is expected to be another focus for the S27 series. Qualcomm has confirmed its next-generation flagship Snapdragon platform will feature an Oryon CPU capable of reaching up to 5GHz, a milestone Qualcomm says would make the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 the first mobile CPU to hit the 5GHz mark. The Galaxy S27 is expected to be among the major phones to adopt the new Snapdragon platform, although Samsung’s full chipset strategy for every S27 model has not been fully confirmed. Samsung and Qualcomm already have a close relationship, with Snapdragon chips powering Samsung’s latest flagship foldables and other Galaxy devices.
Taken together, the leaked renders and supply chain reports point to a more noticeable visual redesign for the S27 Pro and Ultra, potential battery and charging upgrades tied to silicon-carbon cells, and a substantial performance boost if the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is adopted. All of these changes, however, could come at a higher cost than the Galaxy S26.
