Claude CarPlay Support Arrives in Anthropic’s iOS App

Anthropic has added Claude CarPlay integration to its iOS app, letting users talk to Claude through their car’s infotainment system.

Claude CarPlay features and limits

The Claude app on CarPlay opens to a “Start a hands-free conversation” screen that offers options to begin a new chat or access recent conversations. In-app controls let users mute and unmute, end and resume conversations, and the interface shows visual cues when Claude is listening or speaking. Claude can answer voice-based questions hands-free, but it cannot control vehicle functions or iPhone functions. Users must open the Claude app from the CarPlay interface because there is no support for third-party wake words.

How CarPlay supports third-party chatbots

Apple added support for third-party chatbots in CarPlay in iOS 26.4. Chatbot apps that integrate with CarPlay must provide a voice control screen, use Apple’s designated CarPlay template, and obtain an entitlement from Apple. CarPlay has long supported third-party apps, but Apple limits the kinds of apps available to reduce driving distractions. OpenAI added CarPlay support to the ChatGPT app earlier this year.

Update: This article was updated to note that the Claude CarPlay integration is live.
