Apple will hold an event today at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, where the company is expected to unveil new iPhones and more. Ahead of the event, Apple’s new CEO John Ternus shared a short, mysterious teaser video that appears to show a beam of light striking the edge of an iPhone.
The clip shows the light emanating from a hexagonal shape that changes size, a detail that could hint at the iPhone 18 Pro’s rumored mechanical aperture upgrade. The short sequence does not include explicit confirmation of features.
iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro expectations
Reports indicate Apple will introduce its first-ever foldable iPhone today, reportedly named iPhone Duo. In addition, the iPhone 18 Pro and/or iPhone 18 Pro Max are rumored to feature a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera with a variable (mechanical) aperture. Such an aperture would let users control the amount of light reaching the sensor and offer greater control over depth of field. Given the smaller image sensors typical in smartphones, it is unclear how significant that improvement would be in practice.
John Ternus became Apple’s CEO on September 1, succeeding Tim Cook, who now serves as the company’s executive chairman. Ternus joined Apple in 2001, was named vice president of hardware engineering in 2013, and became senior vice president of hardware engineering in 2021.
A media outlet is in attendance at the Steve Jobs Theater and will provide live coverage of Apple’s event today.
