Google has released a new update (v26.31) to Google Play Services that could improve Galaxy Watch GPS accuracy by enabling Wear OS devices, including Galaxy Watches, to process raw location data server-side.
The change is aimed at improving overall GPS accuracy for outdoor workouts such as cycling, running and walking by using server-side processing of raw location information.
Galaxy Watch GPS and device connectivity
The feature will run directly on the device only for Galaxy Watch models with cellular connectivity. For models without cellular connectivity, improved GPS data will be delivered only after the watch reconnects to Wi‑Fi or to a paired smartphone.
The v26.31 update also brings account management improvements for Google and third-party apps, along with bug fixes for diagnostics and system management.
GPS tracking performance for outdoor sports and workouts is already pretty good on recent Galaxy Watches, and this update could further enhance that accuracy for cyclists and runners.
