iPhone Duo pricing makes Galaxy Z Fold 8 look far cheaper abroad

Apple has priced the iPhone Duo at $1,999 in the US, just $100 more than the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which starts at $1,899. That small US gap invites a direct comparison between the two foldables, especially since Apple has included several features the Fold 8 lacks.

Price gaps widen sharply outside the US

In many other markets the difference is far larger. In the UK the iPhone Duo is £1,999 versus £1,699 for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, a £300 gap. In France and the Netherlands Apple charges €2,339 while the Fold 8 launched at €1,999, making the iPhone €340 more expensive. In Canada the iPhone Duo costs C$2,999 compared with C$2,399 for the Fold 8, a C$600 difference. Australian prices show an A$800 gap: A$3,499 for the iPhone Duo and A$2,699 for the Fold 8. India is the most extreme case, with the iPhone Duo starting at INR 299,900 versus INR 179,999 for Samsung’s device, a difference of almost INR 120,000.

These are all prices for the base variants with 256GB of storage. Compared with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the iPhone Duo costs approximately 5% more in the US, 18% more in the UK, 17% more in France and the Netherlands, 25% more in Canada, 30% more in Australia and 67% more in India.

iPhone Duo feature advantages and direct comparisons

Apple has equipped the iPhone Duo with IP68 water and dust resistance and says it will add Apple Pencil support for both displays later this year. The phone offers Flex Mode-style functionality that lets it remain open halfway in a laptop-like position or stand in tent mode; the Fold 8 supports only tent mode. Apple claims up to 31 hours of video playback using the foldable display, compared with up to 26 hours on the Fold 8. Apple has also added a nano-texture finish to the foldable display, which it says gives a paper-like feel and considerably reduces reflections, more so than the anti-reflective coating on the Fold 8’s inner display.

Apple deserves credit for delivering these features on its first foldable, and the company achieving IP68 protection and stylus support shows those capabilities are possible on this form factor. Stylus support was available on the Galaxy Z Fold lineup for a long time before Samsung removed it with the Fold 7. However, because the iPhone Duo commands a substantial premium in several major markets, the two devices do not always occupy the same price category worldwide, even if their US prices suggest they are near peers.
