audioOS 27 reportedly contains Linwood, the system that powers Siri AI, and introduces a new look and sound for Siri on HomePod. The update also adds status lights that emphasize white, blue and orange to match Siri AI’s palette on other devices; a note in the discovery indicates the feature may require new hardware.
Rumored hardware upgrades and compatibility
Rumors suggest an updated HomePod mini is in development with a faster processor — expected to be an S9 chip or newer, and possibly the S11 chip used in the Apple Watch Series 12. The next HomePod mini models are expected to operate similarly to Apple Watch Series 9 and later, meaning Siri AI features would require a connected iPhone with Apple Intelligence and would offer some Siri AI and Apple Intelligence capabilities when paired with a compatible iPhone. The HomePod mini is not expected to receive a redesign, but could gain an N1 networking chip, a newer Ultra Wideband chip and updated colors.
Apple TV 4K is also expected to receive a processor capable of supporting Siri AI, and Apple is said to be working on a dedicated home hub with Siri AI integration. All of the new products, HomePod mini included, could launch as soon as October. Apple is additionally working on an updated full-size HomePod, though its launch timing remains unclear.
