Is Samsung dropping the classic pre-order deal for the Galaxy Z Fold 8?

Samsung will not run its usual pre-order promotion for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Instead, the company is offering a limited alternative: a 50% discount to upgrade storage from 256 GB to 512 GB — a deal many observers say is less compelling than Samsung’s past launch promotions.

Pre-order promotion replaced by storage discount
Rather than repeat its customary launch gift or discount, Samsung is only allowing buyers to move from the 256 GB model to the 512 GB model for half the normal upgrade price. While this option provides some value, industry watchers argue it doesn’t match the generosity of previous pre-order bundles.

This decision fits a broader pricing trend
The change comes as several industry players have raised prices recently. After a major competitor increased prices across lines such as laptops and tablets, Samsung has also bumped prices on some of its existing foldables. That broader pricing pressure helps explain why the promotion for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is comparatively modest.

Expected prices and model differences
Leaks suggest Samsung is trying to keep the base Fold 8 relatively accessible: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may land at about £1,699 / $1,899, slightly below the Fold 7’s launch price. A higher-tier Z Fold 8 Ultra — positioned as the more conventional successor to the Fold 7 — could start around £1,899 / $2,099. The standard model is expected to adopt a slightly boxier profile and lose one rear camera compared with the previous generation.

Technical leaks and new color options
Camera and battery details for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 have already leaked, and multiple official-looking renders have circulated online. One notable aesthetic addition is an online-exclusive “Pistachio” green for the Fold 8, joining a wider trend of green colorways other manufacturers are planning for upcoming devices.

Bottom line
Samsung’s decision to swap a typical pre-order bundle for a targeted storage discount arrives at a time when foldable prices are generally rising. For prospective buyers, the new launch policy changes the financial calculus — and it remains to be seen whether the half-price storage upgrade will be enough to offset the lack of a more attractive pre-order promotion.
