That static capacity contrasted with steady improvements in other areas: newer chips, finer manufacturing processes and better power management have progressively improved on‑device endurance despite unchanged battery size.
Charging speeds: a short, uneven timeline
Charging capabilities have not remained constant. Wired charging on the Ultra line dropped from 45W to 25W with the Galaxy S21 Ultra in 2021, then returned to 45W with the S22 Ultra a year later. In early 2026 Samsung raised charging performance again with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which kept the 5,000mAh cell but increased wired charging to 60W and wireless charging to 25W. The reporting does not expect charging speeds to change again next year.
What to expect from the Galaxy S27 Ultra battery
Unconfirmed reports and regulatory data point to two key battery-related upgrades for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. First, the S27 Ultra may adopt a larger 5,700mAh battery—an increase in capacity not seen in the Ultra line since its inception. Second, Samsung is reportedly planning to bring Silicon‑Carbon (Si‑C) batteries, a technology previously used in its foldable phones, to a rigid (non‑foldable) device; the S27 Ultra would be the company’s first non‑foldable to use Si‑C.
If these signs prove accurate, 2027 could mark a notable shift for the Galaxy S Ultra series: the combination of greater capacity and Si‑C chemistry would represent the most significant battery change for the line since 2020.
