At NAB Show New York (Oct. 21–22), Appear will showcase its X Platform hardware and VX software to address live event contribution, IP distribution and live production workflows, Matt Williams-Neale, vice president of marketing and communications at Appear, told TV Tech.
Appear spotlights X Platform and VX
Appear said X Platform delivers low-latency processing and predictable performance at the venue, while VX extends contribution feeds into the cloud and enables processing and workflow functions to run in software. That combination, the company says, gives broadcasters more options to expand remote production across different event scales and to deliver more content while controlling costs and better using existing infrastructure.
Hardware-accelerated SRT is highlighted as a means to enable secure transport over unmanaged networks, aiding broadcasters in transitioning from satellite, leased circuits and SDI. Customers can introduce capabilities in stages, retaining dedicated hardware where performance is critical and adding software as production requirements evolve.
“Live production workflow is equally important as sports coverage expands across more venues and increases in scale.” Matt Williams-Neale
Industry trends shaping Appear’s focus
Appear identified demand for adaptable infrastructure as a key trend, reinforced by recent conversations at IBC2026, with broadcasters aiming to combine hardware, software and cloud according to workflow needs. Developments such as DMF [Dynamic Media Facility] and MXL [Media eXchange Layer] for interoperable, software-defined broadcast facilities are entering more practical discussions, the company said.
With the upper C-band set for auction by July 2027, Appear warned that broadcasters using C-band satellite capacity need to plan their move to IP now and prefer phased migrations that maintain broadcast-grade control and reliable live services. The expansion of sports coverage across more venues and increased scale is driving investments in remote production that require low-latency transport from venue to production facility or cloud, along with secure connectivity and resilience over networks with unpredictable performance.
How Appear says its solution stands out
Appear emphasizes native integration between X Platform hardware and VX software so customers can choose where to run different workflow parts while keeping control over live production. The company supports JPEG XS, SRT and ST 2110, and says support for multiple codecs plus hardware-accelerated SRT lets customers accommodate changing formats and production models within the same infrastructure, reducing the need to replace systems as requirements evolve.
Appear noted it is already successful in the U.S. but sees room for further growth in North America. NAB Show New York offers an opportunity to speak directly with customers and partners about investment plans—from satellite-to-IP migration to expanding live event contribution and REMI—helping shape product priorities.
