Samsung has announced that the Samsung Wallet app on Galaxy phones now supports stablecoins, starting with USDC in the US. Users can add, transfer and manage USDC natively on their Galaxy phones and can send USDC directly to qualifying traditional bank accounts and compatible crypto wallets.
Samsung is not charging any fees to transfer USDC to compatible third-party crypto wallets. Users with Galaxy phones do not need to download other cryptocurrency apps to add stablecoins or manage private keys.
Samsung Wallet cross-border support
Samsung Wallet includes a built-in cross-border payment gateway that supports transfers to over 60 countries. Funds are automatically converted and delivered in the recipient’s local currency, meaning the recipient does not need to know they are receiving crypto.
Partners, custody and availability
Samsung is relying on Bastion, Coinbase, Solana and Sui for the feature. Bastion is described as a licensed stablecoin custodian managing the cross-border payment framework, while Coinbase will store the USDC assets. Solana and Sui are named as Samsung’s technical blockchain partners.
The stablecoin capability will be available to around 82 million Galaxy phone users in the US at launch. Samsung also stated plans to allow users to pay for goods online and to use tap-to-pay in physical stores with stablecoins via Samsung Wallet, and expects to expand the feature to more countries over time.
