Galaxy Z Fold8: Big-screen viewing in a lighter, more portable design

The Galaxy Z Fold8 adopts a shorter, wider book-style foldable layout that pairs a 5.5-inch cover screen with a 7.6-inch main display, giving quick phone tasks and longer viewing or reading sessions different amounts of space. At 201 grams, it is Samsung’s lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date.

Unfolding the device moves movies, TV shows and longer videos onto the larger main screen for a more immersive viewing experience.

Galaxy Z Fold8 cover screen for quick tasks

The 5.5-inch cover display uses a 10:16 aspect ratio and is aimed at brief interactions: replying to messages, checking social feeds, browsing websites or watching short videos. Those tasks can be completed without opening the main display, allowing the Fold8 to be used like a conventional smartphone when folded. The device measures 9.7mm thick when closed and 4.5mm when open. Its lower weight reduces what you carry daily and makes longer reading or viewing sessions easier to hold.

Unfolding for a wider main display

When opened, the 7.6-inch main display presents a 4:3 layout, offering a wider shape suited to movies, TV shows and longer videos that feel limiting on the smaller cover screen. Reading also benefits: in portrait orientation, articles, websites, magazines and e-books have more room to spread out, which can mean more visible content at once and less scrolling through a narrow column of text, depending on the app and its layout. The device gives users the choice to keep quick checks on the cover screen or switch to the larger display when they want more space.

Multitasking with Split View

The additional width of the main screen creates room for Split View, so users can keep a browser beside a messaging app or leave a video playing while looking something up alongside it. The Fold8 supports both two-way and three-way Split View with supported apps, helping to keep information visible instead of switching repeatedly between apps. A video takes a closer look at these layouts and the everyday uses of the Fold8’s two displays.
