Samsung has reportedly decided to halt development of future Exynos Auto chips for vehicles, effectively pausing its Exynos Auto program despite heavy investment since 2018. The move comes as the company’s semiconductor chip business has skyrocketed this year, even though its non-memory chip businesses continue to struggle.
A rumor surfaced last year that Samsung was considering an exit from the automotive processor segment. A recent report now says the company has officially decided to stop developing new Exynos Auto series chips, a shift that appears aimed at making its foundry and logic chip design divisions profitable rather than continuing investment in automotive Exynos products.
Exynos Auto development halted
The decision ends further development of the Exynos Auto series after several years of investment starting in 2018. Samsung’s broader semiconductor success this year has not resolved challenges in its non-memory businesses, and the company seems to have opted to withdraw from automotive chip development to focus on more profitable areas such as foundry and logic design.
