Samsung has released the One UI 9.0 beta for the Galaxy S24 series today, making the first beta available for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. The update went live before arriving on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, both of which were listed in Samsung’s recent One UI 9.0 Beta Program expansion announcement.
One UI 9.0 beta highlights
The official changelog details several user-facing updates and improvements across system UI, DeX, Notes, privacy, and Accessibility. Official notes warn that not every minor tweak or system improvement may be listed, so additional small changes may be present.
More customizable quick panel
You can now rearrange and customize controls in the quick panel more extensively. The update lets you change the size of the brightness and volume sliders as well as the media player, and it allows the sound mode button to be separated from the volume slider.
Samsung DeX enhancements
DeX gains easier window management: it is now simpler to move an app window from one desktop to another using the menu at the top of the window. Desktop previews have been added at the top of the Recents screen to enable switching with a single tap.
Do more with Notes
Samsung Notes adds a new Tape feature that lets you cover parts of a note with tape and reveal them when needed. A variety of new pen styles have also been added for more writing and drawing options.
Location access transparency
A blue indicator will appear at the top of the screen when an app accesses your location. Tapping the indicator in the quick panel shows which app is using location access.
Discover new Accessibility features
A “What’s new” menu in Accessibility settings highlights and lets you try the latest Accessibility features for your Galaxy. Improvements include a Text spotlight that enlarges and highlights tapped text in its own window, with options to customize font size, colors, and other settings.
Physical keyboard and mouse interactions
Physical keyboards can use shortcuts to access Accessibility settings without touching the screen. Mouse keys receive new options such as speed and acceleration controls, and the keyboard number pad can now be used to point and click.
Other Accessibility refinements
The Replace swipe with single tap option has been moved from the Assistant menu to the Dexterity and interaction menu for easier access. A new Select to speak feature provides quick audio readouts without enabling full TalkBack: users can select an item on screen, such as text or an image, and have it read or described aloud. The changelog also notes improved TalkBack updates.
