Apple has instructed suppliers to increase iPhone Duo production by roughly 44%, raising the annual target from 9.7 million to 14 million units after strong pre-orders, supply chain sources said.
iPhone Duo demand and production
Supply chain sources said Foxconn and component manufacturers received the revised instructions, which apply to a full 12-month period rather than the remainder of 2026. The increase follows robust pre-order activity for Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
Apple described demand as “nothing short of extraordinary.” The company’s pre-orders opened on October 16, and within 30 minutes U.S. shipping estimates had slipped to January 25 across all configurations.
Meeting the higher shipment target could still be challenging. The report indicated that output will depend on assembly progress, after earlier reports of manufacturing difficulties affecting assembly, displays and hinges.
A report forecasting market trends expects global foldable smartphone shipments to grow 25.7% in 2026 and 59.1% in 2027, compared with 7.4% growth in 2025, and says Apple’s entry is expected to contribute to that expansion.
The iPhone Duo launches on October 23 and starts at $1,999 in the United States.
