MacBook Pro, iPad mini 8 and M6 Macs Set for Oct. 28 ‘Pro and Tell’

Apple will announce a second wave of products on Wednesday, October 28, with a media hands-on event in Los Angeles called ‘Pro and Tell’ and product details distributed to the wider public via press releases on the same day.

MacBook Pro: OLED, touchscreen and design updates

Apple will introduce new high-end MacBook Pro models that bring two firsts to the Mac line: an OLED display and built-in touchscreen support. The OLED panels are expected to deliver improved contrast, richer colors and power savings, and will be available for both 14-inch and 16-inch models. Apple will replace the notch with a Dynamic Island and add a sturdier hinge to prevent the display from moving when tapped. The new models are said to be lighter than the current versions, though overall sizes will remain the same.

The new high-end MacBook Pro models are expected to use the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips as the March models; Apple is reportedly skipping M6 Pro and M6 Max, and M7 Pro and M7 Max are not expected until late 2027. Touch will be offered as a supplementary option alongside the keyboard and trackpad, and macOS 27 is being updated to support touch-based gestures. OLED displays and touch modules will likely push the price above current MacBook Pro levels, and Apple may keep selling the existing models while positioning the OLED machines as a higher-end option.

Entry-level MacBook Pro and iMac updates

The 14-inch entry-level MacBook Pro is expected to receive an M6 chip to replace the M5 chip introduced in October 2025, with no other design changes anticipated. Rumors also point to a 24-inch iMac refresh that would adopt an M6 chip without external changes.

iPad mini 8: OLED, new speaker design and A20 Pro chip

An iPad mini 8 is expected to join the lineup with an OLED display, marking the first OLED outside the iPad Pro. The device is reported to feature a vibration-based speaker system that removes speaker holes, which could improve water resistance and potentially give the model an IP rating for splash resistance and limited submersion. The iPad mini 8 is expected to use the A20 Pro chip found in the iPhone 18 Pro models. The front camera will be relocated from the portrait side to the landscape side; it remains unclear whether the mini will keep a 60Hz refresh rate or gain a 120Hz ProMotion upgrade. The OLED display and improved waterproofing are expected to raise the price by roughly $200 compared with the current $599 model.

Timing and availability

Members of the press invited to Los Angeles will get hands-on time beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time; everyone else will see Apple’s product announcements via press releases on October 28. Apple could issue those press releases at 10:00 a.m. Pacific, though morning announcements often appear around 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time as well. After the October 28 debut, the new Mac and iPad options could launch as soon as November 6, with pre-orders possibly opening on October 28.
