A cybersecurity breach at the Bankruptcy Noticing Center (BNC) run by BAE Systems has taken US bankruptcy court notification systems offline since Oct. 9, forcing courts to delay notices and extend filing deadlines while BAE works to restore operations.
Impact on notifications at the Bankruptcy Noticing Center
The BNC, operated by BAE Systems for the Administrative Office of the US Courts (AOUSC), manages electronic communications tied to bankruptcy cases nationwide. It sends notices to creditors, debtors and attorneys about case filings, motions, discharge orders and meeting schedules. The outage blocks access to bnc.uscourts.gov, bankruptcynotices.uscourts.gov, notices.uscourts.gov and the National Creditor Registration Service. BAE stopped producing and distributing bankruptcy notices, so routine updates are not reaching parties.
Court operations and local orders
Federal courts continue to accept filings, open cases and process documents, but entry and service of notices and orders will lag until BAE restores operations. The Eastern District of Texas issued a general order extending any active motion to stay by 30 days for cases filed on or after Sept. 14.
BAE response and investigation
BAE Systems pulled the affected websites and systems offline Thursday and is investigating the breach. A BAE spokesperson said the incident is isolated to the BNC: “We have taken immediate steps to address it,” and “We are coordinating with AOUSC on the response.”
What filers and practitioners should do
If you file or practice in bankruptcy court, treat notification timelines as suspended and monitor your district court’s website for local orders such as the Texas extension. Do not assume creditors received electronic notice of motions, deadlines or discharge actions. BAE has not published a restoration timeline, so plan for continued delays in service and entry of orders.
Context and related public-sector intrusions
The breach adds to a string of public-sector intrusions. ShinyHunters attacked FBI systems in September. The Arizona Judicial Branch confirmed a separate court-system attack around the same time in which attackers stole personal data and backup court files. The US Courts said in August 2025 it was stepping up cybersecurity measures in response to increased targeting of its case-management system.
