Fold an iPhone Duo halfway and set it down, and the top half becomes your screen while the bottom half turns into a control deck — a setup that makes the device feel like Apple’s tiniest laptop.
When you’re watching video, playback controls appear on the lower half, and a keyboard pops up there when a text editor is open. Hold the Duo partly folded in your hands and the device offers a split keyboard instead, preventing your thumbs from stretching across the inner display’s 7.6 inches.
iPhone Duo’s half-fold laptop mode
Third-party apps are adopting the format: Netflix already has a dedicated half-fold mode, and iOS nudges content away from the crease so visuals aren’t bent in the fold. Still, this experience is not a desktop environment — it is not a Mac, and there is no hidden Duo desktop mode in iOS 27.
But when a phone provides a screen that can be dedicated to a keyboard or controls, calling it the “tiniest laptop” no longer sounds so far-fetched.
