The city of Guangzhou recently hosted its annual Pazhou Algorithm Competition, showcasing the forefront of artificial intelligence innovations. Teams from various countries competed, demonstrating advancements in applications, hardware, and AI agents. A total of 24 finalists across two categories presented groundbreaking projects, including unmanned boats, humanoid robots, and AI solutions for elderly care and surgery. Each category offers a top prize of 100,000 yuan (approximately US$14,000), along with crucial data and computing resources. Winners may also secure funding from the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area AI Empowerment Fund and receive free office space in an AI incubator in Guangzhou. As a key manufacturing hub, Guangzhou is striving to establish itself as a technological leader in China. Notable international participants included Markopolo from Delaware, specializing in AI-driven marketing solutions, and Hong Kong’s Vidi Labs, which created Seekr, a wearable device for the elderly or visually impaired that provides real-time voice feedback to help users navigate safely. Both teams presented their innovations remotely.
