AI agents find critical flaw in programming language powering the internet

Global cybersecurity experts have issued a security alert after two cybersecurity companies said they used AI agents to discover a vulnerability in the programming language that powers most of the internet. Experts are urging organisations to update their systems.

Two firms, Calif and Wiz, say artificial intelligence agents played a role in identifying the flaw. Both companies reported the discovery to the wider security community.

Several European government websites went offline on Wednesday as a precaution following the disclosure.

AI agents credited with the discovery

Calif and Wiz have described the use of AI agents in locating the vulnerability. Security authorities and organisations have been advised to apply updates and mitigations as recommended by cybersecurity teams.

The alert focuses on rapid remediation and system updates to reduce risk, and organisations are being asked to prioritise patching and follow official guidance.
