Samsung has invested in Dutch startup Euclyd’s latest $230 million funding round as the company develops AI chips for inference that aim to rival NVIDIA. The exact amount contributed by Samsung was not disclosed.
The funding round was co‑led by Samsung, Somerset Capital Partners, the Scaleup Europe Fund and Innovation Industries. Euclyd was founded two years ago.
AI chips: Euclyd’s approach
Euclyd is designing an inference chip that is less GPU‑forward than NVIDIA’s solutions and uses different processor and memory architectures. The startup’s work is part of a broader move by some hyperscalers to explore different—and potentially cheaper—options for AI inference.
NVIDIA currently holds a significant lead in the AI chip segment. Other organizations, including OpenAI, Amazon AWS, Google and Meta, are also developing their own processors for AI inference.
