Samsung is reportedly weighing an earlier launch for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 and its first slideable OLED device following Apple’s announcement of the iPhone Duo, though the company’s official debuts may still arrive in 2027, according to tipster Lanzuk.
Galaxy Z TriFold 2: design and timing
The next-generation Galaxy Z TriFold will reportedly be lighter, thinner and more durable than its predecessor while keeping a similar price point. Despite consideration of an accelerated schedule, Samsung may still opt to debut the TriFold 2 and the slideable device in 2027 rather than this year.
The original Galaxy Z TriFold was announced in December 2025 and launched in the US in January 2026 with a $2,899 price tag. Samsung reportedly sold that model at a loss and in limited numbers, treating it primarily as a technological showcase; the device was subsequently discontinued.
Apple’s iPhone Duo has given foldable phones greater market legitimacy, and the segment is expected to expand. A recent report cited in the market analysis says Apple will overtake Samsung to become the world’s largest foldable phone maker in 2027, capturing at least 40% of the market.
Although Samsung’s market share is projected to fall from nearly 40% this year to 35% or less in 2027, its total shipments are expected to grow as the overall market expands. To stay competitive, Samsung plans to accelerate innovation by introducing new form factors, including slideable screen phones.
