Airoh GP800 Helmet review: lightweight carbon race-ready lid

The Airoh GP800 is a premium full-face sports helmet built from HPC Carbon, ECE 2206 approved and weighing 1440 grams. Tested in the Must Red Gloss sample, its aggressive, aerodynamic lines, three shell sizes and S–XL fit range combine with a first-class fit and finish to position it as a strong value proposition for track and road use.

Airoh GP800 overview

The GP800 is a race-oriented full-face helmet designed for high-speed stability and visibility. Wind tunnel testing informs its shape, producing minimal wind drag at speed and a secure feel when tucked into corners. The helmet is available in Matte Black and four colour schemes, plus an FIM 12K Carbon Gloss variant, and comes in three shell sizes to suit a variety of head shapes.

Design, weight and fit

Constructed from carbon fibre (HPC Carbon), the GP800 weighs 1440 grams and is offered in sizes S to XL. The tested Must Red Gloss example impressed with premium fit and finish. The shell sizing and light weight contribute to a comfortable ride, and the helmet is glasses friendly with grooves in the cheek pads.

Visors and visibility

Visibility is a strong point: the GP800 features a wide field of view and ships with a clear visor, a smoked visor and a Pinlock 120 XLT Max Vision lens. Visors swap using Airoh’s Tool Less Visor Removal (ATR) system; the mechanism can be fiddly at first but becomes straightforward with use. The visor is tear-off compatible for racing applications.

Safety, comfort and ventilation

Safety features include ASN (Airoh Sliding Net), which functions similarly to MIPS to better protect against rotational impacts, AMLS (Airoh Magnetic Lining System) and AEFR (Airoh Emergency Fast Release). The inner lining is described as comfortable, breathable and easy to remove and wash; it dries quickly. The helmet offers speaker pockets for intercom installation, a chin curtain and a breath guard to reduce visor fogging. Ventilation performs very well, though the top vent adjustment can be difficult to operate with thicker gloves. Noise isolation is decent for a race helmet but not as quiet as a dedicated touring lid.

Availability and pricing

Retail pricing starts at $899.95 for solid colours and $999.95 for graphics. The FIM 12K Carbon Gloss model is priced at $1,399.95. More information is available via the Airoh Australia website or local stockists.

Pros – outstanding quality; super light helmet; extremely comfortable.

Cons – visor swap system can be fiddly; not super quiet; top vent adjustment can be awkward with thick gloves.
