Apple is reportedly upgrading the Apple TV 4K with a standard A19 chip and has tested a refreshed Siri Remote that includes a speaker to make it easier to find, Mark Gurman wrote in his Power On newsletter. Gurman also said Apple has experimented with adding built-in microphones to the set-top box so users could query Siri without using the remote or a paired HomePod, though it is unclear whether those changes will ship.
Apple TV 4K upgrades
The A19 would replace the A15 used in the current 2022 Apple TV 4K model. The reported new Siri Remote includes a speaker designed to help locate the remote when it is lost between couch cushions. Apple has additionally tested integrated microphones in the Apple TV 4K to accept voice requests directly on the device, removing the need for the remote or a paired HomePod for Siri queries.
Gurman noted that whether the built-in microphones and the refreshed Siri Remote will be included with the shipping device remains unconfirmed. The new Apple TV 4K is set to arrive in stores on October 30 alongside a new HomePod mini. Apple is expected to unveil both products at Tuesday’s “Welcome home” event.
