Are Oceania’s tech leaders ready to tackle AI risks, regulations, and workforce challenges by 2026?

In 2026, technology and security leaders in Oceania are bracing for significant challenges such as artificial intelligence threats, ransomware, and complex regulations. A recent survey highlights AI-driven cyber threats and deepfakes as major concerns, with 67% of respondents expressing worry. Additionally, issues like supply chain vulnerabilities and regulatory complexities are pressing on tech professionals in the region. Despite a strong focus on AI adoption, only a small fraction of Australian organizations feel adequately prepared to manage AI risks. The survey underscores the need for robust oversight and governance as AI integration accelerates. Cybersecurity threats, including AI-driven social engineering and ransomware, are critical concerns for the coming years.

Organizational priorities are shifting towards regulatory compliance, business continuity, and cloud security. While many professionals believe increased regulation will promote digital trust, a significant portion of organizations lack plans for governance, risk, and compliance tools. The demand for skilled staff in digital trust roles is high, yet recruiting remains challenging. Some organizations plan to increase hiring, but many are unsure of their future recruitment strategies.

To enhance digital trust and resilience, ISACA recommends actions such as establishing AI governance frameworks, upskilling the workforce, modernizing systems, and preparing for regulatory changes. Leaders are urged to adopt proactive governance approaches, embedding AI ethics, risk, and security into decision-making processes.
