Samsung’s Galaxy Watch is enhancing its health and fitness capabilities with a groundbreaking feature: the ability to predict fainting, marking a global first in wearable technology. This innovation emerged from a clinical study in Korea, revealing the watch’s proficiency in forecasting vasovagal syncope (VVS) with remarkable precision. VVS, which can lead to fainting due to sudden drops in heart rate and blood pressure, often results in injuries from unexpected falls. The study, involving 132 participants, utilized the Galaxy Watch 6 to monitor biosignals, employing an AI algorithm to analyze heart rate variability. The findings were notable, with the device predicting fainting episodes up to five minutes prior with 84.6% accuracy, achieving a clinical sensitivity of 90% and a specificity of 64%. Future iterations of the Galaxy Watch may incorporate this life-enhancing feature.
