Recently, Apple and Samsung have been collaborating on advanced camera technology for iPhones, with Samsung’s latest camera sensors expected to be featured in future models. New insights suggest that this partnership could be more extensive than initially believed. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is reportedly set to join the supply chain of a major global tech company, likely Apple, by providing fine pitch coils essential for camera focusing and stabilization. The firms are currently negotiating specifics, including pricing and supply volumes, with discussions reportedly progressing well.
Previously, Samsung Electro-Mechanics supplied multilayer ceramic capacitors and semiconductor substrates to this unnamed company but had not ventured into camera components. Apple’s past reluctance to source from Samsung was due to their competition in the consumer electronics market. However, shifts in the global smartphone market have aligned the interests of both companies, leading Apple to reconsider its sourcing strategy.
If Samsung maintains consistent supply, the partnership could grow to include actuators, camera modules, and lenses. This expansion may see Samsung providing ultrawide cameras with advanced shutter technology and components crucial for autofocus and image stabilization in future Apple devices.
