Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone may feature a surprisingly compact outer display. The device’s screen is expected to measure just 5.3 inches, which is smaller than the 5.4-inch display of the discontinued iPhone mini. This raises questions about consumer interest in a premium foldable with an even smaller screen, especially given the iPhone mini’s previous lack of popularity.
The device’s dimensions differ slightly from earlier predictions, with the inner display anticipated to be 7.7 inches and the outer at 5.3 inches. These sizes suggest that the iPhone Fold, when closed, will resemble a smaller phone compared to other foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google Pixel Pro Fold, both of which feature larger front displays.
Apple’s strategy may focus on using the folded state for quick interactions, reserving the full experience for when the device is unfolded, akin to an iPad mini. However, a smaller screen may limit certain activities like browsing or typing extensively, potentially challenging user expectations, especially with a projected price tag of $2,000 to $2,500.
