Does the iPhone 17’s 8GB Limit Exclude It from Key Siri AI Features in iOS 27?

Apple has unveiled its latest advancements in on-device AI, revealing that the most sophisticated Siri model requires 12GB of unified memory to function fully. This model enhances Siri’s voice expressiveness and significantly improves systemwide dictation accuracy. However, only the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, along with certain iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro models, meet this memory requirement. The standard iPhone 17, with its 8GB memory, does not support these features. While iPhone 17 users will still receive the new Siri assistant with iOS 27, they will experience older voice options and a less accurate dictation system. The impact of this limitation will vary depending on user needs, especially for those who frequently dictate messages. iOS 27 is currently available in developer beta, with a public beta expected next month and a full release anticipated in the fall.
