Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8, announced at Unpacked 2026, is the company’s first mainstream passport-style foldable and arrives with several of the latest durability measures on paper — but independent stress tests will be needed to confirm how it performs in real life.
– Display protection and Flex Titanium
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 uses Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on its outer display, currently Corning’s top-tier glass solution for screens. Internally, Samsung says the Fold 8 adopts its new Flex Titanium display technology: a titanium backplate combined with a titanium foldable display substrate. That additional titanium layer is intended to reduce the visibility of the display crease and to boost structural durability, a configuration the company also applied to its Ultra model.
– Water resistance and frame
Samsung gave the Fold 8 an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. That is not an upgrade over prior models, but it places the Fold 8 on par with Samsung’s premium slab-style flagships in terms of resistance to water ingress.
