Google Chrome security update fixes 37 vulnerabilities — update now

India’s cybersecurity agency CERT-In issued a security alert on October 14, 2026, urging desktop users to update Google Chrome after Google released a browser update that fixes 37 vulnerabilities, including several rated critical. CERT-In warned that if exploited the flaws could let attackers execute unauthorised code, access sensitive information, gain elevated privileges or disrupt services. Affected versions are Chrome releases earlier than 155.0.8059.79 on Linux and earlier than 155.0.8059.79/.80 on Windows and macOS; Google has begun distributing updated versions to address the issues.

Details of the vulnerabilities

The reported issues span multiple Chrome components, including memory handling, JavaScript processing and other browser functions. One critical flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-110152, affects ANGLE (the component that handles graphics operations) and can cause a buffer overflow, potentially leading to crashes or remote code execution if a target processes specially crafted data or requests. Google’s release also fixes six additional critical use-after-free vulnerabilities affecting components associated with PDF files, networking, SVG graphics, media and core browser functions. High-severity issues were patched in V8, Passwords, Extensions, WebRTC, DOM, PDFium and Canvas. Another identified flaw, CVE-2026-110169, affects Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine; Google credited Xinyang Ge from Anthropic for reporting the issue, with assistance from Claude. CERT-In has published Vulnerability Notes on its website and highlighted the Chrome advisory in a public notice on October 14, 2026.

How to update Google Chrome

Chrome users can check for the latest version by opening the browser’s three-dot menu and selecting Help > About Google Chrome; the browser will search for available updates and download them, and a restart may be required to complete installation. Google is releasing the update in stages, so it may not appear for all users immediately. Microsoft Edge users should monitor for a corresponding update—Edge is built on Chromium and may be affected by the same fixes. In an advisory dated October 13, 2026, Microsoft said it was aware of the Chromium fixes and was preparing an update but had not announced a release date. Users should install the latest available browser updates promptly.
