Has a cyber-attack on Prospect union put UK national security at risk?

A cyber-attack on Prospect, the parent union of the film and TV group Bectu, has raised concerns about potential compromises to UK national security. In June, an IT security incident led to a data breach affecting most of Prospect’s 150,000 members. While initial reports highlighted the impact on Bectu members in the entertainment sector, Prospect’s reach extends further. The union represents individuals in sensitive roles, including those at the Ministry of Defence and military suppliers, as well as civil servants across various government departments. The breached data included bank details, contact information, and personal identifiers such as birth dates and protected characteristics.
