The Chinese AI start-up DeepSeek has positioned its latest flagship model, the V4 Pro, as one of the most cost-effective in the world following a permanent 75% price reduction. This move significantly outpaces US competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic in terms of cost-efficiency. The Hangzhou-based company announced the price cut for the V4 Pro, which is part of its newly released V4 generation that also includes a lighter version, the V4 Flash. This strategy highlights how Chinese firms are challenging their US counterparts by offering competitive pricing rather than focusing solely on advanced capabilities. According to Artificial Analysis, a firm specializing in benchmarks, the V4 Pro now leads globally in terms of cost-efficiency, particularly during a period when the global supply of computing power is limited, driving up prices for advanced models. DeepSeek’s API pricing for the V4 Pro is now set at US$0.0036 per 1 million cached input tokens and US$0.87 per 1 million output tokens.
