Has Samsung compromised too much with the Galaxy A27?

Samsung’s latest release, the Galaxy A27, introduces some notable upgrades over its predecessor, the Galaxy A26, but not without certain compromises. Key areas where the A27 falls short compared to the A26 include the camera, design, and build quality.

In terms of photography, the Galaxy A27 offers a mixed bag. It comes with a new 12MP selfie camera that surpasses the A26’s 13MP sensor, delivering better color accuracy and detail in diverse lighting conditions. However, the rear ultra-wide camera sees a reduction from 8MP in the A26 to 5MP in the A27, marking a clear downgrade.

Design-wise, the change is minimal but noteworthy. The A27 is slightly thicker at 7.8mm compared to the A26’s 7.7mm, despite maintaining the same battery capacity. This is a small step back, especially considering Samsung’s trend towards slimmer devices.

The most significant downgrade is in build quality, specifically water resistance. The A27 has an IP64 rating, a step down from the A26’s IP67. While dust protection remains robust, the A27 is only splash-resistant, unlike the A26, which could withstand submersion in water.

Despite these downgrades, the Galaxy A27 still holds an edge over the A26 with more impactful upgrades. For most users, the slight increase in thickness is unlikely to be a dealbreaker.
