Has Samsung developed glasses-free 3D OLED technology?

Samsung has unveiled a groundbreaking advancement in display technology with the development of the world’s first glasses-free 3D OLED display. This innovation promises enhanced 3D effects and superior picture quality over previous LCD-based 3D technologies. The breakthrough is a result of collaboration between Samsung Electronics, Samsung Research, and South Korea’s POSTECH university. Utilizing lightfield technology, similar to that in the Odyssey 3D gaming monitor, this new display employs ultra-thin metalenses that can switch between concave and convex forms at varying voltages, allowing for 3D visuals at viewing angles up to 100 degrees. This means multiple viewers can enjoy the three-dimensional experience simultaneously. Samsung has successfully integrated a 50x50mm metalens into a smartphone OLED panel, paving the way for its use in future smartphones, tablets, and commercial displays.
