How are Samsung’s ocean efforts gaining recognition?

Samsung’s Ocean Mode, a feature designed to enhance underwater photography on select devices, is part of the company’s broader Coral Reef Initiative aimed at aiding coral restoration. Initially available to oceanographers, the feature has now been expanded to more devices and has garnered international acclaim. The “Coral in Focus” initiative, leveraging Ocean Mode, has received multiple awards, including the Gold for Best Sustainability or Conservation Initiative at the Engage for Good’s 2026 Halo Awards. Additionally, a related documentary, Coral in Focus, won the Coastal and Island Culture Award at the 23rd International Ocean Film Festival. These achievements have secured Samsung a spot on Fast Company’s 2026 Most Innovative Companies list, highlighting its advancements in mobile innovation for environmental research. Collaborating with the U.S.-based non-profit Seatrees, Samsung is committed to reversing the decline of coral reefs through these pioneering efforts.
